Sandoway Research & Education Project:

Palm Beach County Surfrider is helping fund scientific research at the historical Sandoway House, in Delray Beach, Florida. Specifically, this research focuses on the travel of groundwater through Florida’s aquifer system, which includes a virtual highway of cracks and passages which ultimately deposit into the ocean. For this reason, it is important to study the short and long term effects of “injection wells,” and just how these chemicals, treated sewage, and other materials migrate to the ocean. In this project, Palm Beach County Surfrider seeks to establish a scientific groundwork so that we can educate local and state governmental authorities and others about the potential downsides of disposing of waste by means of deep well injections.
