Supporting the "Hands Across the Sand"
- event
On February 13th, the Citizens of Florida will have an opportunity to show their opposition to oil drilling as close as 3 to 10 miles off our coast. This movement will be made of people of all walks of life and will cross political affiliations. This movement is not about politics; it is about protection of our shoreline, our tourism, our valuable properties and our way of life. Let us share our knowledge, energies and passion for protecting our waterways and beaches from the devastating effects of oil drilling.
Hands Across The Sand is devoted to protecting our coastline and waterways from the devastating environmental effects of oil exploration and support industries.
Please wear black (to symbolize oil). Get to the beach at noon, look for the Chapter tent on the beach and stop by. Find out what our Chapter is doing to protect the oceans, waves and beaches by asking questions - even sign-up to become a member!
Next grab a bag and walk the beach with your family/friends and help us clean up Lake Worth's public beach by collecting trash. Return trash bags to the tent by 1pm.
At 1pm, join hands, parallel to the shoreline, facing the ocean, and be part of the statewide "Hands Across the Sand" event. We plan to be in line and organized for photos shot around 1:30pm.

Parking: The beach parking lot will be the main spot to park. It may fill up the closer to you get to the pier but there is plenty of parking. We have no control over the metered spaces so you may want to bring some change.
Clothing: Please wear black! All of the beaches participating in the "Hands Across the Sand" event will have people wearing black to symbolize oil. This should make for some pretty neat photos! As for gloves, some folks chose to wear them, some don't depending on the weather. Most items we pick up are small, plastic, styrofoam, etc. but you could always bring them.
Bags: We will have bags we used from last year's International Surfing Day, but too if you have a spare black garbage bag (symbolizing oil) you could bring it to use for this event. We make sure we don't waste bags when the cleanups are over.
After Party: We will head over to Havana Hideout in downtown Lake Worth where we have partnered with Slow Food Glades to Coast to host an after party (for event participants only).
- $2 homemade fresh local tacos
- $2 Monk In The Trunk Organic beer donated by Inlet Brewing Company for event participants.
